Terms of Use

What Chromahall is. Chromahall is a personal, non-commercial project. It is provided as is and as available, with no guarantee of uptime, accuracy, or continuity. Features may change or disappear without notice.

Who runs it. Chromahall is run by one person, Jaime Ribes ("James"), as an individual. It is not a company and sells nothing.

Eligibility. You must be old enough to consent to the processing of your data under the law of your country to use Chromahall.

Your account. One account per person. You are responsible for keeping your credentials safe. You may delete your account at any time (see Privacy).

Acceptable use. You agree not to: attempt to break, overload, or probe the service; access it through automated means, scrape it, or bulk-extract data; reverse-engineer or attempt to reconstruct its numbers or their underlying data; abuse the contact channel; or use Chromahall for any unlawful purpose. Abusive accounts may be suspended.

Your ratings. When you rate films, you allow Chromahall to process those ratings to compute its calibrated numbers — that means adjusting for your rating habits and combining your ratings with others'. Your original rating is never altered; it is only made comparable.

The numbers are not a verdict. The CHROMAHALL and RAW numbers and any related figures are statistical outputs derived from third-party research data. They are not professional advice, not a factual claim about any film, and carry no warranty of correctness.

Third-party data. Ratings data comes from the MovieLens 32M dataset (GroupLens Research, University of Minnesota); film details and posters come from the OMDb API. Neither is affiliated with Chromahall or endorses it. Details and credits are on the About page.

Images and rights holders. Film posters and other images shown on Chromahall belong to their respective rights holders — studios, distributors and artists. Chromahall uses them only to identify films, claims no ownership of them and does not sell or license them. If you hold the rights to an image and want it removed, write to contact@chromahall.com identifying the image; it will be taken down promptly.

Liability. As a personal, free project, Chromahall accepts no liability for unavailability, data loss, inaccuracy, or any damages arising from use, to the fullest extent permitted by law.

Changes and termination. These terms may change; material changes will be reflected here. You may stop using Chromahall and delete your account at any time. Chromahall may suspend or end access for abuse or to comply with the law.

Contact. General questions: the contact page, or contact@chromahall.com.

Privacy

Who is responsible. Jaime Ribes, as an individual, is responsible for the data Chromahall processes. For any privacy matter or to exercise your rights: privacy@chromahall.com.

What Chromahall collects.

  • Account: your email address, your username and a hashed password, plus when you joined and when you last changed your password.
  • Your ratings: the films you rate or import, the score and date of each rating, the films an import lists as watched, and your picks in Break your ties.
  • Session presence: when you are active and for how long. This is content-free — Chromahall records that a session happened and its duration, never what you look at, search or read.
  • Server logs: your IP address, the time, and the address of each page or function your browser requests, without search terms, and without the films or profiles involved. They are kept for 14 days.
  • Invitation: the invitation code you used and a short note of who it was given to.
  • Messages: what you send through the contact form or the in-app inbox, and the email address you give in the form.

Why, and on what basis.

  • Your account, ratings, imports, Break your ties picks and invitation are processed to provide the service you signed up for (GDPR Art. 6(1)(b)).
  • Session presence and server logs serve Chromahall's legitimate interest in keeping the service secure, fixing problems and learning which features are used (Art. 6(1)(f)). You can object at any time by writing to privacy@chromahall.com.
  • Messages are processed to answer you (Art. 6(1)(f)).

What Chromahall does not do. No advertising. No tracking cookies. No tracking across other sites. No profiling for anyone else. Your data is never sold.

Who else is involved. Chromahall relies on a few providers that process data only on its behalf, under data processing agreements:

  • Hetzner Online GmbH (Germany) runs the server. Your account data stays in the EU.
  • Cloudflare, Inc. receives email sent to Chromahall's addresses and forwards it. It may process that email in the United States under the EU–US Data Privacy Framework and Standard Contractual Clauses.
  • Resend (United States) sends Chromahall's email replies from servers in Ireland. It may process data in the United States under the EU–US Data Privacy Framework.
  • Email sent to Chromahall's addresses is kept in a Google (Gmail) mailbox.

Film posters are loaded by your browser straight from the image servers OMDb links to (Amazon). Those servers receive your request — and with it your IP address — as with any image on the web. Chromahall itself never sends anything about you to OMDb.

Where it lives / security. Your sign-in is kept with a token stored in your own browser (local storage), not a cookie. Your data is held on Chromahall's server in the EU. A daily backup is kept for 7 days on the server and for up to 30 days in a separate private copy held by the operator in Spain.

Retention.

  • Your data is kept while your account is active.
  • When you delete your account — yourself or by writing to privacy@chromahall.com — your account, profile, ratings, imports, watched list and Break your ties picks are removed at once, together with your session records, your messages and the note of who your invitation was given to.
  • Server logs are deleted after 14 days, and backups that may still hold your data are overwritten within 30 days.
  • Messages from people without an account are kept for 6 months after the last message in the conversation.
  • You can delete your account yourself at any time from your Account page (Danger zone) — this cannot be undone — or write to privacy@chromahall.com and it will be done for you.

Your rights. You can access, correct, delete, restrict or object to the processing of your data, and get a copy of the data you provided in a portable format. Your ratings can be exported at any time from My Ratings; for everything else, write to privacy@chromahall.com and you will get an answer within one month. You can also complain to your data protection authority — in Spain, the Agencia Española de Protección de Datos (aepd.es).

Changes. If this policy changes, the updated version will appear here.

Cookies

Chromahall sets no cookies. Not for tracking, not for analytics, not for advertising.

What Chromahall keeps in your browser. A few small items, only to make the site work: your sign-in token and user ID, your username for the menu, a flag if you must change your password, the page to return to after signing in, the last view you chose in Discover and your Break your ties timer. For You also keeps your current results while the tab is open (session storage). Your sign-in is used to recognise you; the rest never leaves your browser. You can clear them at any time from your browser settings.
